Chapter 22: The Wonderful World of MUSIC!
SING & DANCE: the wonderful world of MUSIC.
Just this weekend, I realized it had been a long time since I played music in the house, and I finally fixed my antique piece of an ipod, I mean I got the very first one that ever came out, that Charles had thrown on the floor a few times, but luckily those where built to survive an earthquake, and I started playing Prince and Madonna and of course my son's favorite Juanes, a Dios le pido, and I got a pretty good workout dancing with him and he just goes all out I mean he literally goes crazy to "Let's Go Crazy " by Prince- I always wanted to be Applelonea when I grew-up I wanted to be just as sexy as she just as cool and just as hot in leggings and a biker jacket.
So please when things get very heavy and down, just put on the music as hard as it might be and just dance around the house, apt with your son, even the dining room wherever just move your body and let yourself go to the beat of the music and try to elevate your soul and remove yourself from your heavy body and cluttered mind with problems and bills and stuff and comments made by people who don't even know you and think they know everything about your life. Just DANCE AND BE MERRY with your BABY.
Play lots of music, I don’t believe in babies being colicky I think they become that way when they are not in a calm environment that they feel is safe and where they are unconditionally loved, so make sure you have some good soothing music, and don’t go out and buy those cheesy baby songs or baby music, just use what you would normally like to listen to calm your mind and possibly meditate. I swear that in spite of all the crying and yelling and screaming that I did while pregnant and the fact that I was working as a full-time producer flying all over the globe probably did not help for him to be a more calm baby and hat is probably why he loves to walk and walk and move and move until he falls down and hurts himself and he still insists on walking. So because I was so active, I think the fact that I played soothing music in my car and on the road helped him and then later when they are in this world with you, I firmly believe that they are reminded of that music when they listen to it and remember it well. For example my son likes Bossa Nova, in particular bebel Gilberto, there is this song called: “Baby” that I would loop for hours and hours and luckily that helped he also liked Juanes and Christmas Carols, so make sure you have at least 2 or 3 songs that you can play in the car and whenever you need to calm him down or make him get relaxed.
I saw today on the Times website in an article that I read about the woman who did my placenta pills, Sara Periera: www.mommyfeelgood.com, that there are a bunch of applications that you can download from itunes onto your iphone that have sounds that are soothing to babies, I haven't tried it yet. but do check-out the Quad Camera it is soooo cool, and exactly the device that the iphone needed as it's camera lens is too slow and you loose those precious moments, most automatic cameras are too slow in general, or perhaps me as a frustrated photographer am too fast, but this allows you to take four shots in one so it increases your chance of catching that milli second of you child's smile or laughter better, not perfect but better and then you can play it also like a movie on your iphone. It only costs $1.99 to download and it might be even less by the time you read this, but it is so worth it, better than the Hipstamatic lens... much ado about nothing... Kodak still does a better job.
So try-out different kinds of music and don't give up, if your child is as picky as mine is, he will only settle for the very best in EVERY category for his likes all music, classical, rock, jazz, reggae, hip hop, Russian folkloric, bachata, etc... but you will find one that will just put them in a trance and then you will be in heaven as will your baby.
HANG IN THERE as my dear friend Marta would say... it's only the beginning of a wonderful live of challenges you will overcome and somehow enjoy.
