ZAKUSKI: BOOKS: Charles Bukowski's Women

I know, I have been MIA, but believe me when I say I've been busy as I have, I also finished reading a book, YES! from beginning to end, Charles Bukowski's "Women" I really enjoyed it, it was addicting almost and I just happened to chance upon it at the Redlands University bookstore  right next to the bargain shelf where I picked up Diego Diego drawing board and cool book and my favorite Babar goes to America! The reason being I was killing time waiting for my Pastor to join me for lunch as I was voted to represent my Church at the Annual Conference so that provided housing for me and my son to go and spend four days there. My biggest weakness has always been books, music and clothes and shoes and bags and traveling and I still consider myself a true out of the closet shopaholic, and it's always when you think you are over it that you realize you really aren't. I also discovered recently redbox at Ralph's and Alberston's, you can rent movies, including many new releases for $1.00 yes, even the 99cents store has this, but theirs is blockbuster owned. I really like redbox, and so long as you return it by 9PM the following day you are good. So I'm really enjoying the convenience of this, plus if you go out of town you can return it at any grocery where they have the machine and it is so fast and easy. I just saw "It's Complicated" and "The Traveler's Wife" and the quality of the dvd's were great, I mean you expect to get ones that are all scratched-up and full of fried chicken grease stains or popcorn butter or worse some weird white mucous, but really they are quite"sanitary" and for $1.00 I remember when I was a high school student at Washington Irving High School in NYC we use to go to the Upper West side and had to take two subways and still walk a while to get to the cheap $2.00 movies, but they were always old movies, like movies that had been out for at least a month or two and all your friends has already seen them so it really wasn't that much of a BIG deal but at least we got to go when at the time it was already $8 or $9 at most places in the city.
The other reason why I haven't written is that my son got sick this weekend and has kept me up a lot at night, since he has a respiratory problem, when he gets any type of cold even a mild one, it is agony for both of us. Two nights ago he woke up SIX times and most of the time crying cause he doesn't know what's going on with himself, and then he started having difficulties breathing, I thought he was going to choke to death on his mucus, he literally sounded like he was having a severe asthma attack, and I didn't know what to do expect hold him up and soothe him and tell him it was O.K. and to keep breathing. It is so PAINFUL to watch your baby suffer and not be able to do anything about it. The problem was that the daycare that they provided during this conference since they are literally out in the desert, they had the AC pumping FULLBLAST and poor Charles who is skinny by American Standards, was stripped down to one layer and when I picked him up he was sneezing nonstop and I had forgotten of all things to pack his multivitamin gummy bears with echineacea. Luckily he is much better now and while he still has a cold I think he is very happy to be back at his regular daycare with all his friends and teachers. Today he made a cute visor and a little summer tote bag. He also made a handkerchief for Father's Day which I'm keeping the other one I gave to my Dad who God Knows has taken care of my son many times, always after a LONG discussion and telling him exactly when I'll be back - as if I had curfew or something and it's normally for work when I do this in the evenings...one day someone will understand...
But I decided to keep this one that had his cute little footprints on it and also so that I can use it when I need to have a good cry..... just kidding, not abut the first part, but the second. Actually I have started a collection of my son's artwork that I've stacked on top of the piano, the second most used surface of the apt that is not intended for storage but simply just ended up that way. Of course once I clean and organize my place.... JAJA! I'm still optimistic that it will happen before Charles goes to college or even Kindergarten, I will hang all of them on the wall and show them off.
So all you SINGLE PROUD MOMS, don't feel badly on Father's Day, this TOO is your Day to give yourself the CREDIT you deserve and to make yourself feel GOOD about all that you do for your child all by yourself, for not only are you his/her mother you are also his/her father and you have every right to celebrate as it too is not an easy role to be 24/7.
God Bless and God Night Single Mommies!
